Plain-language definition

A routable address for an SS7 node, similar to a phone number for network elements.

Technical definition

A Global Title (GT) is an E.164-style address carried in SCCP called and calling party fields, translated by STPs into point codes; an SMSC's or HLR's GT identifies the originating network.

Why it matters

GTs identify where SMS traffic really comes from, making GT validation and anomaly detection central to grey-route control.
