SS7 carried over IP networks.

Plain-language definition

SS7 carried over IP networks.

Technical definition

SIGTRAN defines SCTP transport and adaptation layers (M2PA, M2UA, M3UA, SUA) that carry SS7 user parts over IP, removing the need for TDM signaling hardware.

Why it matters
