FlashCall and Voice Verification
Voice-based authentication, its effect on SMS OTP economics, and related automated calling abuse.
What is flashcall and voice verification?
FlashCall uses a short or intentionally unanswered phone call as part of user verification instead of, or alongside, an SMS OTP. The receiving application reads the incoming caller ID as the verification code, so the call is terminated before answer and never generates billable voice minutes.
FlashCall is unusual among the topics in this knowledge base because it is not fraud. It is a legitimate verification method that happens to move revenue off the operator's messaging books and onto a channel that is harder to see and harder to bill.
This hub covers detection, the commercial consequence, and the genuinely fraudulent voice patterns that appear alongside it.

In-depth articles on flashcall and voice verification
Each article opens with a direct answer, then covers the mechanism, detection and operator impact.
What is FlashCall authentication?

FlashCall and Voice Verification FAQs
Short answers to the questions that come up most often. Longer topics have their own articles above.
What is OTP SMS traffic?
One-Time Password SMS traffic carries temporary authentication codes used for account verification, login, transaction authorisation and other security processes. It is typically the highest-value and most latency-sensitive category of A2P messaging.
Can Guardivia detect FlashCall activity?
Guardivia can analyse relevant calling patterns and indicators to identify activity consistent with FlashCall and related automated verification behaviour, subject to available network integration and data.
What is Wangiri fraud?
Wangiri is a fraud technique involving short calls intended to encourage recipients to call back, potentially generating fraudulent or high-cost traffic.
What is robocall detection?
Robocall detection identifies patterns associated with automated calling, such as unusually high call frequency, repetitive behaviour, short-duration calls, large destination sets or other anomalous calling characteristics.
Does detecting FlashCall mean blocking it?
Not necessarily, and Guardivia detects and classifies rather than terminating calls itself. Many operators start by quantifying displaced OTP volume for commercial discussions; enforcement, where chosen, is executed through a voice firewall or SBC.
